Jumat Depan Aksi Menentang Perang di Iran (Orange Alert!)

The Bush regime staged a coup to get in office, is rampaging across the Middle East, changing laws to further its global agenda, intimidating the world by openly torturing people, gay-bashing and denying women’s rights, moving closer to a theocracy, suppressing science and critical thinking Š and now threatening to bomb Iran.

The world can’t afford 15 more months of Bush Cheney! If you don’t act when it counts, it doesn’t matter.

What can you do?

On November 16, wear bright orange at work and school; Distribute orange armbands at UH-Manoa Campus Center from 12-1:30;

Hold signs in front of the Federal Building from 4-6pm (Ala Moana Blvd. side);

Organize and “orange day” at your workplace, high school, or college campus!

“Dissent: Voices of Conscience” cleared by State Department
We just received word that “Dissent: Voices of Conscience – Government Insiders Speak Out Against the War in Iraq”, written by Ann Wright and Susan Dixon, has been cleared by the U.S. State Department. As reported earlier, the CIA, NSA and other “intelligence” agencies prevented its release until they had vetted it for state secrets. No secrets, but they delayed it long enough to miss a release date before the holidays. The official release date is in January 15, but Koa Books hopes to have some books in Hawai`i by mid December. You can order through Revolution Books (944-3106) and they’ll give you a call as soon as it arrives. It is also available for pre-order on Amazon. (The price has increased from the previously announced $15 to $17.95).

U.S. Endorses Torture – Again!
Michael Mukasey, a federal judge who was nominated by George Bush for U.S. Attorney General, was asked during confirmation hearings if waterboarding was torture. He said he didn’t know what it was, and then refused to acknowledge that it is torture. So on November 5th activists demonstrated what it was just outside of the Justice Department.

Check out the article and U-Tube here.

Last night the Senate voted to confirm Michael Mukasey, the latest “spin doctor for torture”. For more info on the vote, click here.

Sign Petition and make phone calls!
Last Thursday, dozens of students at Morton West High School in Berwyn, near Chicago, staged a protest in the school cafeteria against the Iraq war, and specifically against the military recruiters who have set up shop inside the school. The students were threatened and cajoled into moving the protest out of the cafeteria, with the promise that punishment would be minor. But they were suspended for up to ten days, and 37 are now facing expulsion by the superintendent, Ben Nowakowski.

Sign a petition online at petition.

Call or e-mail the superintendent: Dr. Ben Nowakowski, Superintendent District 201 2423 South Austin, Cicero, IL 60804; bnowakowski@jsmorton.org. (708) 222-5702

For an excellent letter by the father of one of the students: letter.
